Top 10 FAQ

You look young for an entertainer. How old are you?

What you should be asking is, "Am I seeing an illusion or is this some sort of wizard trickery?" Julian, a Junior at The Ohio State University, started practicing his magic craft at the ripe old age of five and began performing shows at age 11.  A natural-born entertainer, he has been amusing audiences since he was old enough to talk. Some say he never stopped talking, thus the push toward entertainment to diffuse his energy and need to make others outside of his family and fellow classmates laugh. He maintains a sense of professionalism in his relationships with clients and in his magic. He also adds a touch of youth and uniqueness that others can't. This allows him to connect perfectly with both children and adults through his magic and comedy.

There are no prices on the website, why not?

The reason there are no prices on the website is because no two events are alike.  Prices are dependent on multiple factors, including the number of people present, the length of the show or booking, and the type of magic requested.
Rather than quoting vague prices, Julian prefers that you provide details of your event. Just fill out the Get In Touch form on the Contacts page. Give as many details about your event as possible. He will contact you and recommend one or two options based on your specific event, and be able to quote you an exact fee. There are no hidden fees. The fee he quotes will be the fee he charges, as long as the parameters of the event do not change.

How far in advance do we need to book?

.Julian’s magic is very powerful, but not powerful enough to guarantee a last-minute show. Bookings can be taken up to 18 months in advance of the event. Generally Julian has bookings a couple months in advance, with Saturdays, Winter Holidays, and the summer months being the most popular. It still does not hurt to check availability as soon as you have a date in mind as many key dates do tend to get booked up in advance. For example, July and August are in high demand for wedding clients and the weekends in these months are very much prime dates that get snatched up quickly. The latest someone can book a date is about a week in advance. That being said, even if your event is short notice it is always worth a phone call just to see if he has an availability or cancellation for that date. The best way to know if Julian is available is to contact him for an informal chat and quote. You can reach him at (630) 303- 4606

Is your show just for kids or for adults too?

Julian Alexander's show is for all ages. In his family magic shows, he believes that it's especially important to keep the adults in the room entertained as well. He tailors his performance for each audience. He combines magic and age appropriate humor.

How many people can you entertain at a function?

Julian's stage show can adapt to fit specifically what you need. Audiences of all sizes appear for Julian’s magic shows, The number of people at a function depends on the type of function you are hosting. He can perform at a festival for a couple thousand people, or he can perform for a school or social event for ten – several hundred people.

How long is your show?

However long you want. Most bookings tend to be 30 minutes to 1 hour. This time frame includes Julian's stage show/ family show, which is ideal for the occasions where there is one audience seated together, rather than multiple tables. For Weddings and strolling shows, bookings tend to be from two to three hours, which normally covers for example a drinks reception, then an eating period. Or in the case of a wedding for example, a photo session period after the ceremony is approximately two hours. Some events are longer however, such as trade shows or a corporate family fun day.

What's your favorite thing about being a magician?

Julian says that there is no single answer to that question as there are a many number of things that make magic enjoyable, but here are some that come to mind for him:
  • The reactions people have to magic. There is nothing more satisfying than getting great reactions from the people you are entertaining. Some people respond so vocally and spontaneously that it is a joy to witness and gives that feeling of satisfaction.
  • Julian really enjoys meeting (and entertaining) new people. In this business, you are meeting new people all the time and from all different walks of life.
  • The community. The art of magic has such an encouraging and supportive community. There is always someone to talk to, ask questions to, discuss principles with, or just simply jam with. There are hundreds of conferences and gatherings, where magicians, from all over the world, can get together to practice, perform, and learn.
  • The mystery factor, not necessarily the mystery of magic, but more in the places you end up and the things you see. Julian gets to see things that he wouldn't get to see in everyday life; magic can be a great adventure.
  • Traveling is also a big part of magic. Whether it's driving up and down Illinois, or hopping on a plane to perform in another country.

We want to book you, but have not decided on times yet. Is this OK?

That's fine. As time goes on, should a second inquiry come in for the same date, you will be contacted first to see if you have decided on a time, and work the second booking around that. Essentially, all bookings are taken on a first come first serve basis.

What's the best method to get a hold of you?

To contact Julian you can call him at the number provided on the Contact page of this website. If there is no answer, just leave a short message stating the basic details of your event. Don't forget to include the date and location along with your contact e-mail and phone number. Alternatively you can send an email. Julian tries to respond as soon as he can to all inquiries. All emails are answered within 24 hours and most within 6 hours. If for some reason you have not heard back within 24 hours, please re-send.

How far will you travel?

Julian typically performs in the Chicagoland area: Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Naperville, Burr Ridge, Oak Brook, Bolingbrook, Lombard, Evanston, Joliet, Aurora, and Downtown Chicago. Julian has also performed all around the U.S. and even internationally.

Can you tell me how the tricks are done?

The short answer is no. Julian could give you the stock, unfunny answers like "I could tell you but I'd have to kill you" or "very well thanks" etc, but it's better to spare everyone. Basically, magic ceases to be as entertaining and amusing when you know how it's done.
